"..Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
We are the ones we've been waiting for.
We are the change that we seek..."
Barack Obama

Wow.
You've heard the news, no doubt: Barack Obama ran away with it.
But did you see the dynamic speech he delivered right after his victory was confirmed?
If not, watch it NOW. No matter your political viewpoint, you'll have to agree it's an awesome speech.
You'll also have to agree that this is a truly historic moment. A 'mixed' race man from Hawaii with relatively little executive experience; a rank outsider 2 years ago... and he becomes President!?
Be honest, did you see this one coming 2 years ago?
We've also got the full transcript absolutely FREE. Stay tuned - we'll have some insightful commentary on Obama veeery soon.

Money doesn't exist.

|
When Sandra Hurst, Hogarth Blake's resident wealth strategist,
told us that money doesn't exist, we thought she was CRAZY.
"But, Sandra, what's this folding stuff in my wallet...?
"...How can you say that in a 'credit crunch'...?"
But she is 100% serious.

"... I'm working to break ghettos of the mind..."

Twilight with some of the mentors
he has trained in West London
|
Age 18, Twilight Bey was a key figure in brokering a landmark truce between the Crips & Bloods gangs in LA's notorious Watts and Compton districts. Much of this difficult work was done in the aftermath of the 1992 LA Riots...
He's been in the UK for some time now, working on various mentor schemes, community projects and seminars.
In his own words: "I'm working to break the ghettos of the mind," he explains. "The problem lies in the head, not in the physical reality. Yes, these young people have difficult surroundings, and sometimes their family lives are really hard but it's important they take responsibility for themselves and fight for a better life."
It's fair to say that he's had some truly amazing results... but don't just take our word for it... click here to read a breakthrough interview with Twilight by Aidan Jones at The London Informer newspaper...

"... I Used To Be a Gangsta..."
|
|
|
With the constant barrage of stories about violent crime and the perpetrators being volatile ready to snap young people, its easy to become a little paranoid, not wanting to venture too far into the world outside.
But what about the positive stuff happening out there that no one writes about? This video discovers the stories that redress the balance to see how peace can come out of war on the streets of London...
As part of recent Current TV production, Twilight Bey and several of his peers provide a compilation of landmark interviews, all of which demonstrate practical ways to combat negative gang mentality.
Look out for more gang related projects from Twilight Bey & the Hogarth Blake team which will be launched very soon... sign up to the newsletter to be kept informed!
Thanks to Darkling TV for this video

Twilight Bey speaks to Breakdown FM on the 1992 LA Gang Truce & the LA Riots... 10 Years on!
|
First aired in April 2002, this is described as:
"... probably the realest interview you will ever hear about gang life, the efforts to bring about peace and the role police and other outside forces played in disrupting the progress undertaken by those who were on the frontline trying to make a better tomorrow..."
After the infamous LA Riots of 1992, Twilight Bey was one of the key figures involved in the truce negotiations between incensed residents, local gangs & government forces.
Ten years later, Twilight Bey gave a feature length interview to hip hop guru Davey D on the LA riots, the resulting truce & dozens of related topics including daily gang life, police brutality, the prison industrial complex, CIA's CoIntelPro Department and much, much more.
Includes quotes from rapper Ice T, local LA residents, gang members, eyewitness accounts and more. Not for the faint hearted...

Twilight Bey is currently working hard on his long awaited autobiography... meanwhile, read more about his life story here
From growing up in the gang neighbourhoods of South Central L.A. to managing part of Jim Brown's Amer-I-Can programme aged 18 to pioneering landmark intervention projects in the UK, Twilight has generated more social awareness amongst more people from more backgrounds than most schools, universities & governments can do in a lifetime.
To accompany this, he is also preparing a graphic lecture series -"G-VISION™" - fictional illustrated stories that will expand your social awareness via the 9 areas of human activity - economics, education, entertainment, labour, law, politics, religion, sex & war.
Most importantly, it will make you look at how you look at you... from a local to a global level!

Flora Shaw gives the name 'Nigeria'
The Times (London) January 8th, 1897
by Dame Flora Louisa Shaw, DBE (1852 - 1929)
Flora Shaw was the daughter of a British captain whose family life led her to begin a career in journalism from a young age. Her writings were constantly infused with a burning passion for what she saw as the positive aspects of the British Empire and all of the notions of racial & colonial superiority which went with it...
"The name Nigeria applying to no other part of Africa may without offence to any neighbours be accepted as co-extensive with the territories over which the Royal Niger Company has extended British influence , and may serve to differentiate them equally from the colonies of Lagos and the Niger Protectorate on the coast and from the French territories of the Upper Niger."

Black + White = Grey (2008)
by Paul Obinna
Paul Obinna, resident speaker at Hogarth Blake, has had some truly unique life experiences - growing up as one of the few dark-skinned children in several all white towns & cities in the 1950s, his background gave him a headstart in understanding mixed race communities... and all the issues that come with them.
Quite often, being 'Black + White' gives him the best of both worlds sometimes; but ocassionally 'Black + White' can equal 'Grey'... a dull, lifeless colour.
Controversial? Or honest? You decide.
